Safeguarding and Child Protection
At Onyx School of Performing Arts, the safety and wellbeing of our students is our top priority.
- We are committed to creating a safe, supportive environment where every child can learn and develop with confidence.
- If concerns arise, our team will always act in the best interests of the child.
- All staff members hold an Enhanced DBS check to ensure they are suitably qualified to work with children.
Equal Opportunities
We celebrate diversity and welcome all children regardless of ability, race, gender, class, or religious background.
- We encourage every child to strive to reach their full potential.
- Casting for productions is based on the suitability of the child for the role.
- We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where all children and staff are accepted and valued for who they are.
Special Educational Needs (SEN)
We are committed to supporting children with additional needs wherever possible.
- Please provide a detailed description of any special educational needs when registering your child.
- While we will make every effort to accommodate individual needs, we are not able to provide a dedicated one-to-one support staff member.
- If you have questions about the suitability of our classes or would like to discuss reasonable adjustments, please email us and a member of the team will get back to you.
Health and Safety
We take health and safety seriously to ensure a secure, hazard-free environment for all students.
- Regular risk assessments are carried out across all teaching spaces.
- Fire safety procedures and precautions are in place.
- In the event of a fire alarm, staff members are responsible for the safe evacuation of their classes.
- Children must be collected by a parent/carer after class unless alternative arrangements have been agreed with staff via email.
First Aid
- A qualified First Aider will always be on site during classes.
- Parents/carers will be notified if their child receives first aid treatment.
- In the rare event that an ambulance is required, parents/carers (or emergency contacts) will be informed immediately.
- If a parent/carer has not arrived before the ambulance, a staff member will accompany the child with all relevant medical information until the parent/carer is present.
Medication
To help us keep children safe:
- Parents/carers must inform us if their child is asthmatic or carries an EpiPen.
- Children must bring two in-date inhalers or EpiPens to each session, clearly labelled with their name.
- It is the responsibility of parents/carers to ensure all medication is current and in good working order.
